In the month of August, Scorpion Design honored two separate employees with Employee of the Month (EOM). Both employees decided to donate their monthly contribution to two separate charities. The first donated to D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)—a program which goes to schools with classroom lessons led by police officers. D.A.R.E. America helps to train police officers, establish programs and provide the materials to help improve and strengthen local communities. This is done in hopes to educate America's students about the dangers of drug abuse and violence and to better equip them to deal with the pressure to participate in such activities. It is a program which has received national recognition for its work—including one day every year being declared "National D.A.R.E. Day" by Presidential Proclamation. The other monthly contribution went to Feed the Children, a charity which makes it its mission to provide people throughout the world with "life's essentials." They have made it their vision that no one throughout the world will go without out—something that they have been fighting for since being founded in 1979. Their work has resulted in them consistently being recognized as one of America's top charities. In fact, in 2011, through their work, they were able to donate more than 104 million pounds of food. They also were able to give out over 150,000 backpacks to homeless students, as well as deliver over 200 trucks full of disaster relief supplies to victims of tornadoes, flooding and more. Feed the Children has also established an international outreach program which allows for them to feed school-aged children throughout the world.
