A Small Practice Competing with National Brands

Urgentology Care opened their doors in 2018 in Arlington, Texas as a family-run practice. Located in the densely populated Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, they had their competition cut out for them. As a small, single-center practice coming up against multinational urgent care centers in the area, it was clear Urgentology Care needed to be strategic with their marketing if they wanted to make it. So, the practice’s CEO, Yaman Subei, led the charge in making sure their practice was visible online and in the community.

Urgentology Care got a good start in building the practice’s digital presence, but after a while, it became clear that they needed a whole new level of support. They needed someone who fully understood the nuances of their industry and could run full-speed with their marketing without a lot of oversight. Due to Scorpion’s expertise in medical digital marketing, Yaman chose us as Urgentology Care’s new partner. We worked with the practice to enhance their online image, and we leveraged digital marketing campaigns to bring them more online exposure. Everything was going great, but then something happened — the coronavirus outbreak.

The day after the U.S. implemented its travel ban, Urgentology Care saw their daily patient volume plummet by about 50%. Knowing they had to move quickly, they adapted their clinical protocols to address safety concerns and got ahead of other urgent care centers in their area in securing high volumes of COVID-19 test kits. Then, it was up to our team to help them spread the word.

Urgentology Care truly stepped up as a local leader for COVID-19 testing and safe urgent care during the pandemic, and we wanted people in the community to know that. So, we worked with Yaman and his team to post updates everywhere we could. These updates included a banner on the homepage of their website, blog posts, and posts across all their social media profiles. These efforts, combined with Yaman’s business networking and local media coverage, brought an influx of patients. “Our phone was ringing non-stop. Every 30 seconds, we were getting calls from people who wanted to get tested,” Yaman said.

Yaman says that while he and his staff put a lot of work into shifting their operations and spreading the word offline about their COVID-19 testing, those efforts were only part of what helped the practice succeed during the pandemic. The other part was all the legwork his Scorpion team had put into Urgentology’s digital presence in the months prior. “It goes hand-in-hand,” Yaman said. “The world is digital now, so it’s very critical for us to have a strong online presence. All these calls and everything else we did ultimately led right back to our digital footprint, and at the end of the day, that influences referrals and patient decisions.”

One of Yaman’s main marketing challenges before he found Scorpion was a lack of access to performance data. Now, with Scorpion, he has an online reporting dashboard that provides a new level of transparency whenever he wants it. “Having the numbers at my fingertips helps because I can see our performance and make better decisions when I have real-time access to the data. I can see our traffic, where we’re spending money, what’s working and what’s not, and then pick up the phone and call my Scorpion team to make changes when needed.”
