Job Overview

As a Lead SEO Manager, you will be responsible for the success of a team of SEO Managers who report directly to you in addition to managing a rotating list of clients that require more in-depth work(~20). This is a leadership role, which means you will not only be expected to conduct high-quality work for your clients but also come alongside your team members and help them do the same. 

As a leader you will serve as a mentor to the SEO Managers in your vertical by protecting their time, coordinating with the marketing team on their behalf, answering their questions, and helping them grow as experts in SEO. You will work closely with new hires to ensure they are trained properly and work closely with the Senior Director of SEO to define best practices and strategies for SEO in your vertical. Your goal is to not only level up your team’s understanding of SEO but also the understanding of SEO in other departments by responding to questions and providing expert insight for specific campaigns when needed. 

While this role is not an “account management” role in the traditional sense of the term, you will be expected to interface with clients as requested and assist your SEO team and marketing team members with SEO-related client conversations. 

What You'll Do

Responsibilities:

  • Provide valuable SEO updates and insight to clients/MM’s
  • Competently communicate with clients via email, phone conversations, or in-person meetings
  • Analyze site performance using 3rd party SEO tools to identify strengths, weaknesses, and solutions
  • Understand your clients’ goals and preferences and optimize accordingly
  • Communicate quickly and effectively regarding all SEO work performed
  • Produce exceptional analyses for MMs that meets internal/external expectations
  • Complete monthly audits of team campaigns according to your queue
  • Make any necessary updates to tracked search terms 
  • Responsible for treating emergency requests with urgency and ensuring they are fully resolved
  • Find creative solutions for challenges unique to competitive-level SEO campaigns 
  • Work with MMs and Director to identify strategies 
  • Have an in-depth understanding of unique campaigns, goals, and challenges 

  • Monthly Accountabilities 
  • Complete queue daily
  • Develop & send SEO reports to each client 
  • New client pre-launch analysis, when necessary
  • Complete post-launch QC for any new launches assigned to you
  • Complete pre-sale audits for prospects, when necessary 

  • On-Site & Off-Site Accountabilities
  • Manage On-Site SEO performance via: 
  • Checking and improving on-site optimization
  • Checking and improving internal link structure
  • Checking and fixing potential indexation issues
  • Reviewing, improving, and adding valuable content
  • Checking and fixing website health issues (i.e., 404 errors)
  • Manage Off-Site SEO performance via: 
  • Work with Local SEO Specialist (LSS) to ensure mandatory listings are claimed and accurate 
  • Monitoring all critical listings (i.e., Google My Business) for accuracy and improvement opportunities 
  • Keeping up-to-date and taking advantage of new features on Google My Business
  • Ensuring Google Search Console and Google Analytics are tracking properly 
  • Working with LSS to research and propose new ideas for locally and industry-relevant backlink opportunities
  • Manual outreach for the creation of citations, mentions, and backlinks 
  • Training Accountabilities
  • Handle the most complex issues and problems within SEO campaigns
  • Possesses expert knowledge of the assigned vertical industry and SEO updates and trends
  • Provides leadership, training, coaching, and/or mentoring to other SEO team members
  • Responsible to monitor and ensure training is set up and executed for new hires within vertical and on the strategic pod 
  • Responsible for training and coaching all of the SEO managers on the vertical 

What You'll Need

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in a professional environment handling data-driven, problem-solving, or detail-oriented tasks
  • 5+ years of SEO related experience is required
  • Digital marketing experience required and agency experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Excellent written & verbal communication
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Precise critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with relevant tools (i.e., Ahrefs) and web analytic tools (i.e., Google Analytics)
