Katy Towe, an Account Manager at Scorpion, knows what it’s like to help make a dream come true for a child with a life-threatening medical condition. Why? Because she has volunteered for the Make-A-Wish® Foundation for years and has even served as an official wish granter through the nonprofit organization.
As one of our January employees of the month, Katy was given the honor of choosing a charity to receive a donation from Scorpion. She selected Make-A-Wish.
“I choose the Make-A-Wish Foundation because the charity is very close to my heart,” Katy said. “I have been volunteering with the organization for over 8 years on and off and have helped put together many local events to raise money for MAW. My favorite part of volunteering with Make-A-Wish has been getting the opportunity to be a wish granter. Through each wish that we grant, we get the opportunity to meet the wonderful family and a wonderful child who unfortunately has had to endure a life-threatening medical condition.
"I know from experience that this $1,000 donation could grant an amazing and very deserving child something such as a new backyard playground, a bedroom makeover, a shopping spree, or even a portion of a trip to Disney! These are just a few of the types of wishes that I have had the opportunity of granting over the years, and each one will be a part of my life forever.”
Katy said she would like to make this particular donation in memory a boy named Donovan – the only Wish child she has ever lost.
Make-A-Wish® Changing Children’s Lives for the Better
Make-A-Wish was founded in 1980 and has since granted more than 415,000 wishes worldwide. According to the nonprofit, it is able to grant a child’s wish every 35 minutes on average in the United States and its territories. Make-A-Wish is able to make a difference in the lives of children with the help of its volunteers, donors, and other supporters.
Katy says she is grateful to Scorpion for this giving opportunity.
“I’m incredibly fortunate to work for a company like Scorpion that not only acknowledges our achievements as employees, but also partners with us to give back to community organizations that mean so much to us personally,” she said.
