Scorpion is celebrating an exciting new future for our Internet marketing company and our 350+ employees. How are we marking the occasion? With a whole lot of dirt.
On Nov. 30, Scorpion gathered with architectural designers, key developers, and local business development representatives to celebrate the start of construction of our brand-new corporate headquarters. With hard hats on and shovels in hand, our Scorpion executives ceremonially broke ground at the site where Scorpion’s new home is being built. Construction will take place over the course of the next year with an anticipated completion range of Q4 of 2017.
“With the tremendous growth Scorpion has been experiencing in recent years, we decided it was time for a new corporate headquarters building—namely one that reflects our culture and values as a company,” said Scorpion CEO Rustin Kretz. “Our employees are the heart and soul of Scorpion, and we want to do everything we can to keep them happy, healthy, and in a motivating environment. We believe the well-being and satisfaction of our employees directly translates to the well-being and happiness of our customers.
“We also believe in being good stewards of our local community, which means using construction practices that result in low environmental impact. The new building is not only a step in the right direction for Scorpion’s growth, but also for the growth of the Santa Clarita Valley as a generator of jobs in the tech industry.”
Holly Schroeder, President & CEO of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC), said the new headquarters will be a valuable asset to the local community.
“We’re thrilled that Scorpion is placing permanent roots in the Santa Clarita Valley,” Schroeder said. “This building, beyond allowing Scorpion to grow great jobs here, will be a visible sign of the strength of our growing tech sector. What Scorpion has accomplished is an inspiration for all tech startups. This building is a sign of the company’s maturity, I think we are going to see more tech companies interested in the Santa Clarita Valley due to the pioneering leadership and success Scorpion represents.”
High-Tech Building with an Employee-Centric Design
So what make Scorpion’s new building so unique? It’s being designed specifically with our employees in mind. The new building will include open work spaces to help foster collaboration and creativity, as well as amenities that are designed to inspire, motivate, and reward our employees. It will also be eco-friendly. The headquarters will be built to meet high environmental efficiency standards, which will make the building eligible for CALGreen certification.
“This is one of the early, true high-tech interior environments in the Valencia market,” said Allen Trowbridge, the commercial real estate professional who is serving as Scorpion's advisor for the project. “It’s being designed around the employees and their needs and wants, which is why it’s going to have an in-house cafeteria, multi-function rooms, training rooms, gyms, showers, and an outside eating area. The Valencia market is unique in that the area will allow the employees to have a place to live and work at the same time.”
According to Kevin Urban, Project Manager at Snyder Langston (our general contractor for the building’s core and shell) said some of the building’s many notable features will include a 2-story-high, 3-D vertical wall element, an integrated LED display screen, energy-efficient lighting, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and eventually solar panels in the parking lot.
A New Home for Scorpion That Reflects Our Culture
Scorpion is working with Wirt Design Group to design the new headquarters’ interior. Karina Silva, Project Designer at Wirt Design Group, said the goal is to create a space that truly reflects Scorpion’s identity and culture.
“What we’re working to do is really embody Scorpion’s culture, who it is as a company, and how its employees work within its space,” Silva said. “I think what’s really great about Scorpion’s executives is they’re very much into creating a space that feels like a home for its employees, not just an office.”
Most Scorpion employees work at the Valencia headquarters and call Santa Clarita home for their families, so they are quickly making the SCV the “Silicon Suburbs”—a place where technology and family life can both thrive. Our Scorpion team is excited about the future and what it holds for both Scorpion and the Santa Clarita Valley. Continue reading our blog for more exciting Scorpion news!
