On Saturday, March 21, the Scorpion team was proud to partner with the Michael Hoefflin Foundation to both sponsor and participate in their 2015 Walk | 5K Run. The annual event is a celebration of the children and their families who have been affected by childhood cancer. All of the money raised by the event goes toward the nonprofit’s efforts to support affected children and families throughout Santa Clarita and surrounding valleys.
“Partnering with the Michael Hoefflin Foundation has resulted in one of the most rewarding relationships we have established within our community,” said Director of PR & Events Kylie Patterson. “They are a true asset to those they work with and a hidden gem in the nonprofit world. We’re honored to share our SCV home with organizations like them. Their level of service is admirable and something that definitely resonates with us.”
Not only was Scorpion one of two main sponsors for the event, but more than 115 employees (and loved ones) participated—sporting bright gold shirts as they showed up bright and early to show their support. In true Scorpion style, many runners actually placed first in their age groups. Richard Greenland placed first in the 60-65 age group (and was the fastest runner over 40!), Spencer Lincoln placed first in the 25-29 age group, and Sarah Pattison placed first in the 18-24 age group. Seasoned runner Ben Fiandaca also placed second overall.
“What really touched my heart this year is what Ben Fiandaca did as he approached the finish line in first place, about to win the whole event,” said Internet Marketing Manager Richard Greenland. “He graciously and unselfishly allowed the 12-year-old on his heels the whole race to pass him just before the finish line and gave up his personal victory for a much greater one. Ben went above and beyond for Scorpion and put someone else ahead of himself.”
We are proud of Scorpions such as Ben, as well as all of the team members who showed up to support such a great cause. While we love to win (and we do it well), what we love more is being able to participate in events that truly matter and helping make a difference throughout the community. We look forward to continuing to show our support for organizations such as the Michael Hoefflin Foundation and getting sore limbs for years to come.
As Search Engine Marketing Manager Joshua Moore said, “It was an awesome opportunity to come together with other people for a good cause. To see people who had gone through cancer treatment, family of people who currently have cancer, friends, and supporters all joining each other for the same purpose of supporting MHF was cool to see!”
