On April 19, 2013, the Scorpion Design team participated in and supported "Clays on the Brazos," the first annual AAF Sporting Clays Tournament. This tournament was hosted by Allied Advocates Foundation (AAF)—founded by five attorneys who chose to work together to give back to the community. These five lawyers, however, wanted to do more than that, and sought ways in which they could support soldiers and their families. For this reason, "Clays on the Brazos" was held to benefit the Returning Heroes Home (RHH) Foundation—an organization founded in 2006 to support the brave men and women seeking rehabilitation at Fort Sam Houston. The RHH has spent over a decade to create a "home away from home" at this place of healing, so that soldiers can get the care and peace that they deserve while recuperating from their injuries.
To support this good cause, Scorpion became both a Scoring and a Gun Sponsor for the event. We, however, were not content to just support the AAF and RHH Foundation from the sidelines—so we sent a team of our own to participate in the charitable sporting clay tournament in Simonton, Texas. "It was a really enjoyable time," said Scorpion's Chief Legal Officer Michael Sauer. "Even though it was a competition, it wasn't a highly competitive atmosphere. All teams were willing to help the other teams. Clearly, we all had the end goal in mind; we realized the reason we were there was to help our veterans."
Scorpion was so impressed with the tournament, and so appreciative of the efforts to support veterans, that we have already made the decision to participate and support future events however we can. "It was great to see the local community come together to raise money for our veterans," said Scorpion's Senior VP of Sales Peter Webb. "It doesn't get much better than attending a fundraiser with award-winning BBQ, live music, and a sporting clay tournament. We will enjoy doing this next year."
Through efforts such as this, we always hope that we can utilize our Scorpion Cares branch to better give back to the community, both locally and on a national level.
