In the spirit of the holidays, Scorpion Design, through its charitable Scorpion Cares branch, chose to give back to the local community by hosting a canned food drive for the SCV Food Pantry. In true Scorpion spirit, we decided to turn it into a competition, splitting the company into different teams to see which one would be able to bring in the most canned goods. All of the teams went above and beyond to exceed their quota by going door-to-door and talking to local small businesses.
As one team leader, Vice President of Sales Brandon Wheeler said, "My team has been getting our friends, family and local neighborhoods involved with the drive. We have gone door-to-door and, to all of our surprise, we've gotten some very warm comments and welcoming comments, such as 'I am so happy you are doing this, I didn't know people still did canned food drives anymore.' This has given many people an outlet to give back this holiday season."
In the end, Scorpion was able to collect more than 12,000 canned goods for the SCV Food Pantry, including everything from toothbrushes to non-perishable food items. The donation was so large in fact that a U-Haul truck had to be rented to transport all of the goods. At the end of the December 20 work day, all of the employees lined up to form a human assembly line, passing dozens of boxes along into the truck, which was filled from front to back and top to bottom with all of the donations.
"Scorpion is all about giving back—we make it a way of life," said owner Rustin Kretz. "Throughout the year we make numerous efforts to help the local and national community in every way we can. This canned food drive is just one of the ways that our team rallies together to help. We hope to continue giving back & showing the Santa Clarita community just how much we care."
