For April 2013, the Employee of the Month (EOM) gave her donation to Operation Smile. For over 30 years, Operation Smile has been working to help heal cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children across the globe. They pride themselves on being more than a charity; rather, they see themselves as a "mobilized force of medical professionals and caring hearts."
Statistics show that every three minutes a child is born with a cleft; of these, 10% will not live to see their first birthday. Those who do survive are forced to live with the physical impairment (difficulty eating, speaking, socializing, etc.), as well as the social stigma. It is therefore Operation Smile's goal to heal the smiles of children internationally through safe reconstructive surgery.
Since 1982, Operation Smile has helped heal children in more than 60 countries with the help of volunteers and the generosity of worldwide supporters—allowing children to live the rest of their lives with dignity. Their mission statement is simple, " Operation Smile mobilizes a world of generous hearts to heal children's smiles and transform lives across the globe."
