The Latest Update: Addiction Treatment PPC Ads

|

Google announced on Monday, April 16, 2018, that it plans to resume accepting advertisers for addiction treatment centers in the U.S. This follows the original suspension of pay-per-click ads for recovery-oriented drug and alcohol services in September of 2017, primarily due to misleading and deceptive advertising that was becoming rampant throughout the industry.

How You Can Start Running Addiction Treatment Ads Again

Approval to run addiction ads on Google Adwords will be contingent on an evaluation by Oregon-based LegitScript, which already monitors online pharmacies to prevent abuse and unauthorized selling in the pharmaceutical industry.

LegitScript’s application process will take 15 criteria into account, including passing criminal background checks as well as insurance verification and privacy regulation compliance. According to LegitScript, the vetting standards are meant to demonstrate “a commitment to best practices, effective recovery and continuous improvement” and are supported by the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers and the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse. LegitScript will charge $995 for the initial verification and $1,995 annually for ongoing monitoring.

Why Should You Get Verified By LegitScript ASAP

Not every addiction-based service will be eligible for LegitScript certification. Sober-living homes and referral agencies will not be allowed to advertise on Google, meaning advertising will be reserved for addiction treatment providers that service patients directly. This will likely lower the average cost of advertising for verified addiction centers nationwide.

With this reboot for addiction treatment advertising, rehabilitation centers that get the green light from LegitScript and Google will likely have a significant advantage in the marketplace by being the first movers in an otherwise empty landscape.

LegitScript will pilot its monitoring program with only 30 applicants for the first three months. Time is of the essence — completing the LegitScript application quickly and getting on its program waitlist as soon as possible will be imperative for any rehabilitation treatment facility that wants to jumpstart its advertising on Google.
