Attention Franchises: Rapid Growth for Home Service 'Near Me' Searches Posted by Jordan Wilson | 10.7.16 10:37am

On our franchise marketing blog, we recently explained what “near me” searches are and how much they have grown in popularity. In case you missed it, here’s a quick recap:

What is a “near me” search?: A “near me” search occurs when an online user types a keyword into search engine with the words “near me,” or a similar phrase such as “nearby.” (Example: “plumber near me.”) This type of search pulls results for businesses or service providers that are closest to your current location rather than those that are simply within a searched city. (Example: A plumber right down the street instead of across town.) “Near me” searches are especially popular on mobile devices.

Why does It matter?: “Near me” searches nearly doubled in 2015. This shows that more people are searching for businesses and services based on precise locations, which means it’s time to refine your franchise’s local search engine optimization (SEO) and paid search strategies so you can get maximum exposure for your franchisees.

Here’s What the Rise in ‘Near Me’ Searches Looks Like

The Google Trends graphs below show how much “near me” searches have spiked over the past 2+ years in the United States for specific home service-related terms.

Please note that the Google Trends graphs show the rise and fall of the interest in a search term over time, relative to the term’s highest point of popularity. A score of 100 represents interest at its peak, while a score of 50 represents a time when interest was half of what it was at its peak. These types of graphs are helpful for visualizing trends.

The graphs below reflect “near me” searches occurring between Jan. 1, 2014 and September 30, 2016).

“plumber near me”

“ac repair near me”

“appliance repair near me”

“painter near me”

“maid near me”

As we can see from the graphs above, home service-focused “near me” searches have been rapidly growing just like the rest.
