Scorpion Employee Donates Big to the Red Cross to Provide Hurricane Relief

It began with Hurricane Harvey in Houston leaving more than 30,000 residents displaced and resulting in $70 to $200 billion dollars worth of damage.

Then it was Hurricane Irma throughout the Caribbean and the southern U.S., leading to the deaths of more than 80 people and causing roughly $100 billion dollars in damage.

Most recently, it was Hurricane Maria hitting Puerto Rico and the Caribbean with all its strength, contributing to blackouts, shortages, and deaths across the region.

In the face of these unrelenting natural disasters, Scorpion’s August Employee of the Month, John Morris, felt like he had seen enough: he wanted to do something about it.

Every month, the departments of Scorpion come together to nominate their own Employee of the Month (EoM). Resulting in about a dozen EoMs, a single individual is chosen at random and presented with the opportunity to find a charity of their choosing for the company to make a donation towards.

After being informed that he had been chosen, John knew within moments which charity would be most the deserving, appreciative, and in need: he chose the Red Cross.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria, the Red Cross has been on the ground since day 1. The organization has so far provided victims of this hurricane season with more than:

  • 1 million overnight shelters

    • Hurricane Harvey (416,000+)

    • Hurricane Irma (643,000+)

    • Hurricane Maria (97,000+)

  • 4.7 million meals and snacks

  • 1.7 million in relief items

And they accomplish this all with a volunteer force that accounts for over 90% of their workforce.

On the impact the Red Cross has had been able to have in providing disaster relief, Morris had this to say:

“As the lives of many of our neighbors in Texas and Florida have been turned upside down in the wake of these disasters, I cannot think of a more worthy charity than the Red Cross. From the bottom of my heart, I know this donation will make a difference, and help those in need get back on their feet.”
